High Visibility Running Shirt
Ever since my wife and I adopted a rescue pup, daily walks and runs have become part of my routine. Every morning, rain or shine, Lucy and I hit the roads and trails by our house, so she can do her business and we both get some exercise in to start our day off right.
The challenge is that we live in a fairly busy area with an elementary school right nearby. Our route has a few busy street crossings that we must make. For much of the year, it’s fairly dark, which compounds the fact that in our neck of the woods, pedestrians, like Rodney Dangerfield, “don’t get no respect.”
See and Be Seen
I wear as much high vis (visibility, for those in the know) accessories as I can (all reflective everywhere – On Cloudflyer shoes, hat, shorts, Apple Watch Series 4 Nike + edition with reflective black sport loop). But there’s nothing quite like that neon yellow that almost glows in the dark, it’s so potent with just a little bit of light on it.
Interestingly, most of the big fitness brands don’t make gear in this crazy yellow. Maybe it’s a fashion choice, but for me, if I have to choose between safety and style, I’d rather live another day and be accused of gauche clothing while exercising.
Also visible: a running essential, the Apple Watch Series 4 Nike + edition.
Without too much fruitless searching, I came upon and purchased a high visibility running shirt that I really like. It’s got everything I was looking for: the 80s neon yellow that is practically radioactive in its luminescence, reflective logos in the front and back (because you can never have enough reflective surfaces, apparently), quick drying, and a nice looser fit, without being too loose (that’s my preference, anyway). If that describes the fit you like, I would recommend sizing up from your usual t-shirt size. I wash it on cold and just let it air dry, and it’s as good as new.
Complete the Outfit
And if you’re feeling matchy-matchy, and want the answer to the popular callout “who wears short shorts” to be “I do!”, you can pick up these equally bright running shorts. I have not tried them personally but seem to have all the features you would want (I personally prefer the built in brief liner for running shorts) at a fair price.
